Life's a little topsy turvy here in the Bunn hacienda.
Lost State Tours is slowly but surely becoming a REALITY!!
Whitebread and I spent last weekend out at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The NASCAR races are a BIG deal out hear - for MANY people, it's the only vacation they take. So, I figured it would be a GREAT way to "break the bus in." And boy did it get "broken in"!
I didn't do much advertising at all. I spent about $5 on fliers that I handed out at ALL of our local hotels and that seemed to work. We had 7 guests on Saturday and 17 on Sunday! Our capacity is 23 - so we ALMOST hit it Sunday.
Saturday we shuttled folks back and forth to the track and Sunday we drove there and stayed until the race was over. The back and forth was a little stressful, but we ended up having a GREAT day just hanging out on the bus on Sunday. It was on odd little holiday in the BMS bus parking lot - surrounded by charter vehicles (much FANCIER than ours).
We hung out on the bus, read a little, chatted with each other and napped. There was no work to be done, no chores and no baby. It was like a day at the beach - if the beach was engulfed with diesel fumes - lol.
The bus fared REASONABLY well - we've named her Black Beauty. She started leaking a little anti-freeze Saturday afternoon, but my brilliant husband figure out how to fix that. And then on the way home from the track on Sunday, with our bus load of passengers, the speedometer went out! Luckily, we were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, so it wasn't like we had anywhere to go, but Whitebread was a little stressed.
Other than that, we did have some minor interior damage. Some of our decorative seat siding came off (which we had anticipated, just not quite so soon). We also hadn't anticipated the SIZE of some of the race fans. I'm not sure that we could have accomodated 23 guests if we had gotten fully booked up. We had some BIG old boys who were taking up two seats. I'm actually, not entirely sure how they got onto the bus! But it didn't seem to be a problem. Everyone RAVED about the bus, which was nice to hear and they seemed to have a good time (though we didn't do ANYTHING except shuttle them).
Hopefully, we can drum up even more business in August (which is when the BIG race is). The only problem being that the race date is within 10 days of my due date!!! We may have to name this next baby, Bristol - LOL!
So, after working all week, the week before the race (regular work and race prep), we spent the weekend AT the race and STILL away from the baby - we then had tickets to see the Harlem Globetrotters the Monday AFTER the races. Well, after an unhappy local basketball game (he doesn't like the buzzers & loud announcers), we decided to leave Loki with his girlfriend Turner and her parents.
The game was fun, those poor Washington Generals NEVER have a chance! I was too tired to stay through the whole game and I missed my baby too much. But we made it through half time.
Work stuff is OUT OF CONTROL. It's more than I really care to get into at the moment, especially coming off of what feels like two weeks straight of non-stop WORK. So, maybe there will be a post dedicated entirely to the MANY enterpreneurial ENDEAVORS of Howie Bunn.
We're trying to lay low this weekend and recuperate. Though, I'm already itching to go see our new little nephew! Whitebread's sister's wife (that's a mouthful) had a BEAUTIFUL baby boy yesterday at noon - Alistair Karmen Ares. I'm NOT a fan of the name, I keep threatening to call him Lester, but that's not being well recieved - LOL. He IS A GORGEOUS little boy.
Next weekend is a FULL ON PARTY weekend! Loki turns 1 on Saturday, so we're having a double dinner party for he and my mom Friday night (they share the birthday). Saturday is Turners 1'st birthday party out on her grandparents farm. Apparently, ONE is the Vietnamese equivalent of a Quincenara in Latin culture. It's RIDICULOUS. Tricia, Turner's mom, has done more planning for this event than for her wedding - well, that might not be entirely true, because Vietnamese weddings are pretty intense, too - I think she had 3 or 4 wedding dresses and TECHNICALLY she was supposed to have like 6 or 7. Anyway, it should be a good time. THEN, my neice is having her 5th birthday party at OUR house on Sunday - complete with a Magician and his piano playing dog. I'll take LOTS of pictures, I PROMISE.
We miss you ALL. I hope that life in your world isn't QUITE this crazy (unless, of course, you want it to be!)
Bunn Luvin's all around!
