The past three weeks
Hello again! I wanted to take a bit and let you know what has been going on in our lives since Rebecca's arrival.
Things have been nuts at times and peaceful at others.
We had some nursing issues while still in the hospital and we found out one reason was Rebecca was tongue tied. We did a lot of research and had several doctor's appointments and specialist appointments to see what to do. Come to find out there is a membrane that connects her tongue to the bottom of her mouth was too tight. It was preventing her from latching on properly. We decided to have the membrane clipped and it was done very quickly in the Pediatric surgeon's office. The surgeon was concerned that if we didn't clip the tongue now it might lead to speech problems and speech therapy. Also if we waited to have the tongue clipped we would have to put Rebecca under anesthesia. The clipping was a painless procedure as the membrane has no nerve endings. I cried more than Becca did! Thank God my sister was here to go with me.
Rebecca was also jaundiced but now she is all better! We had to have her on a special lighted blanket. She was only on the special blanket for a few days.
Due to the latching issues, Rebecca lost almost too much weight after leaving the hospital and her doctor was concerned. We had to supplement with formula. She started gaining weight and as of Tuesday she was over her birth weight. Thank goodness! As you know I tend to worry and I was a basket case! Since she is older now and her tongue is better, the nursing has become much better but we are still working on perfecting it! I am pumping too so we have a freezer stash.
I had a touch of the baby blues and started feeling better about 10 days after Rebecca's arrival. My parents, my in-laws and my sister probably think I am nuts! I cried at the drop of a hat--I even cried when the receptionist was super nice to me! I was told it was normal but sh*t, no one warned me about it!
My parents have been lifesavers as were the Allen's for the first few days. With the c-section, I needed people to drive me places and carry the baby up the stairs. My parents are loving life--holding the baby and talking to her and even changing dirty diapers! The have been great in running to Publix, doing dishes and cooking dinner. They are even starting to help us pack up what crap we will not use until we move. I seriously have asked them to move in but Sean is hesitant. HA!
My parents have been helping me during the day as Rebecca had her nights and days mixed up. Plus they give me an hour to get a nap! It is funny to go to bed to so early so I can get up in the middle of the night--I haven't gone to bed at 8PM since I was little! Sean and I have been handling the night feedings. Sean has been great and not complaining when he has to work the next day! We will be handling this weekend alone as my parents are going to Naples to visit family.
Rebecca is amazing. She is already starting to hold her head up during tummy time. My parents are amazed! Plus she is such a wiggle worm! So funny. It is great to interact with her and sing to her and watch her make eye contact with me. I am really looking forward to her first smile.
For Christmas, my parents got us a video camera so I will figure out how to post one soon!
